2C Ventures leads Nanordica Medical's €1.6M funding round with participation from Specialist VC and Superangel

Estonian medtech company Nanordica Medical has raised €1.6 million to support the commercialisation of its first-in-class antibacterial wound dressing technology for chronic wounds. The round was led by 2C Ventures, with participation from existing investors Specialist VC, Superangel, Amalfi, the Health Founders syndicate led by Erki Mölder, and the EstBAN syndicate led by Heidi Kakko and Martin Goroško.

Nanordica Medical is developing Premotiv®, a patent-protected wound dressing technology designed to simultaneously prevent infection and promote wound healing. The company's approach addresses one of the most significant challenges in wound care: balancing antimicrobial effectiveness with safety for healthy skin cells.

Chronic wounds affect around 100 million people worldwide, with more than half becoming infected and often leading to severe complications, including sepsis, amputation, and death. Diabetic foot ulcers are among the most serious forms of chronic wounds and remain a leading cause of lower-limb amputations globally.

Premotiv® has demonstrated promising clinical results. In a randomised controlled trial involving 30 patients with diabetic foot ulcers, wounds treated with Premotiv® showed a 43% reduction in wound area after one week, compared to 13% for standard silver dressings. The results were recently published in the Journal of Wound Care.

Building on these findings, Nanordica Medical is currently conducting a multicentre, double-blind, randomised clinical trial involving more than 120 patients, making it one of the largest studies of its kind. The company expects the trial to generate the clinical evidence required to support reimbursement decisions, future treatment guideline recommendations, and broader adoption of its technology.

“Antimicrobial resistance is one of the defining healthcare challenges of this decade, and most wound care products are making it worse,” said Martin Koppel, Founding Partner at 2C Ventures. “Nanordica has built a clinically proven alternative that doesn't rely on antibiotics, doesn't compromise healing, and leaves a significantly smaller environmental footprint. We backed the team because they had both the science and the conviction to see this through.”

The company has already achieved several key milestones ahead of the commercial launch, including ISO 13485 certification for its quality management system, a European patent, and the successful launch of its veterinary wound care product, Ravimus Vet, which is now distributed in six countries. Nanordica was also recently named by SmartTRAK as one of four advanced wound-dressing companies to watch in the global wound care market.

“This financing round will enable us to complete a large randomised clinical study, strengthen the economic case for Premotiv®, and finalise CE marking for commercial launch in Europe,” said Olesja Bondarenko, CEO and co-founder of Nanordica Medical. “Our clinical data suggest that Premotiv® helps wounds heal faster by managing infection without compromising natural healing processes. Faster healing has the potential to reduce complications, lower treatment costs, and improve outcomes for patients with chronic wounds.”

The funding will support completion of the ongoing clinical trial, final regulatory activities for CE marking, and the commercial launch of the company's human wound care product across Europe. These efforts build on previous support from a €2.4 million European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator grant, which helped fund clinical development, regulatory preparations, and product expansion.
