Trind VC participates in GitHits’ €1.5 million pre-seed funding round

GitHits, a Finnish startup building an AI-native code search platform for developers and coding agents, has raised €1.5 million in pre-seed funding. The round was led by Vendep Capital, with participation from EstVCA member Trind VC and notable angel investors including Peter Sarlin, Zach Shelby, and Jerry Liu.

Founded in late 2025 and spun out of Softlandia Venture Studio, GitHits was established by Jaakko Timonen (CEO), Olli-Pekka Heinisuo (CTO), Nathan Burg (CPO), and Juha Litola (Chief Architect). The company is developing what it describes as the "Google of code search" — an AI-native, version-aware index of public open-source code designed to help developers and AI coding agents find real implementations instead of relying on generated assumptions.

The platform addresses a growing challenge in software development. While AI coding assistants are increasingly capable of navigating local codebases, they often struggle to understand the frameworks, libraries, SDKs, and open-source dependencies that modern software relies on. GitHits aims to solve this by providing AI agents with tools to discover working examples, inspect software components, and better understand dependencies and vulnerabilities.

The funding will support the launch of GitHits' beta product and the development of its first commercial version later this year. "Our vision is to index all public open-source code. With this funding, we are launching the beta version of the product today, and the first commercial version later this year," said CEO Jaakko Timonen.

The company joins a growing wave of AI infrastructure startups focused on improving how developers and AI agents access, understand, and utilise software knowledge at scale.
